SAMPO would like to welcome to our Executive Board Mr. Douglas Sippel.
Doug works as General Services Director for the Town of Colonie located in Albany County. The Town of Colonie General Services Department includes Purchasing and Building Shared Services. The department is responsible for all the Town’s purchasing, facilities management, and building and grounds work for Town facilities. The Town of Colonie has a population of over 80,000 people with an annual budget of just over $94 million.
Doug has been in his position since 2002. Prior to coming to the Town he spent 19 years in banking working in branch management and spending the last 5 year in the purchasing department for Fleet Bank. This background has been most helpful in my career with the Town and the jump into municipal purchasing.
Doug became a member of SAMPO in 2002. Through his participation with SAMPO, he achieved his CPPB in May of 2006. He has enjoyed the events and the annual conferences which he has found informative. Meeting others in the field and sharing ideas has been a great benefit from participation in this organization. Sometimes it is good to know that you are not the only one facing the same issue or challenge.
